Transport and Delivery

A delivery fleet that kept failing its registration renewals

The challenge

The situation

A distribution company ran a mid-sized fleet of vans and light trucks bought at different times, each on its own policy with its own date. Third-party cover has to be valid before a vehicle's registration can be renewed, so vehicles were standing idle while paperwork caught up. Own-damage repairs were being settled on non-agency terms although a number of the units were still within the age band where the dealer workshop is expected. Drivers changed often, and some were not licensed for the class of vehicle they were driving, which the policy required.

What we did

What we did

We moved the whole fleet onto one common renewal date, with a pro-rata adjustment for vehicles joining mid-term, and set additions and disposals to be declared periodically instead of issuing a policy per vehicle. Repair basis was reviewed unit by unit: agency repair was negotiated for the newer vehicles and named workshops agreed for the rest. We put the licence condition to the operations manager in plain terms so a claim is not lost on it, and built the renewal reminders around registration expiry rather than the insurer's calendar.
